Corporate iPad ordering in Chicago

For teams that buy iPads every quarter rather than once. Set the spec sheet up front, then reorder against it — with devices arriving supervised, tagged and ready to hand out.

How does corporate iPad ordering work?

You define a standing specification once — model, storage, connectivity, case, MDM profile, asset tag format. After that, reorders run off a short form and devices arrive enrolled in Apple Business Manager with your configuration already applied, so IT unboxes and distributes the same morning.

Deliveries can be staged across several Chicago offices on a single purchase order and a single invoice, rather than one order and one AP cycle per location.

The problem with ad hoc ordering

Most growing Chicago companies buy iPads the same way twice: someone in operations expenses a few from a retail site, IT configures them by hand when they arrive, and nobody records the serial numbers. It works at five devices. At fifty it produces a fleet with four different iPadOS versions, no consistent asset register, and a provisioning process that eats a day of IT time per batch.

The fix is not a better spreadsheet. It is deciding the specification once and then never re-deciding it, which is what a corporate ordering programme is.

The standing spec sheet

We build this with you on the first order and it governs every subsequent one. It fixes:

Device
Model, storage tier, colour, Wi-Fi or cellular.
Protection
Case model and screen protection, consistent across the fleet so spares are interchangeable.
Enrolment
Your Apple Business Manager organisation and MDM server, so devices supervise automatically.
Tagging
Asset tag format, prefix and numbering sequence, continued from your existing register.
Delivery
Default sites, contacts and packaging requirements.
Approval
Who can authorise a reorder and up to what value.

A reorder then becomes a quantity and a date. No respecification, no re-explaining the tag format, no discovering at delivery that this batch shipped in a different case.

Apple Business Manager and MDM

This is the part that saves the most time and the part most often skipped. Devices purchased through a reseller can be added to your Apple Business Manager organisation before they leave us. Combined with automated device enrolment, that means a device powers on for the first time in the user's hands and immediately pulls down your MDM profile, apps, restrictions, Wi-Fi and VPN settings — supervised, and without anyone touching Setup Assistant manually.

What we need from you, once:

  1. Your Apple Business Manager organisation ID, so we can assign purchased devices to it.
  2. Your MDM server details — we support any of the mainstream platforms; we do not resell one, so there is no push toward a particular vendor.
  3. A confirmed enrolment profile that you have tested on a single device before we run it across a batch. We will ship one unit first for exactly this if you want.

Worth knowing: automated enrolment has to be set up before devices are handed out. Retrospectively supervising a fleet that has already been distributed means collecting and wiping every unit. Getting this right on the first order is the difference between a half-hour setup and a fortnight of chasing.

Asset tagging and registers

Every device leaves us with a physical asset tag in your format and appears on a delivered register that maps tag to serial number to model to delivery site. If you already run a register, we continue your sequence rather than starting a parallel one.

This matters more than it sounds. Insurance claims, internal audits, employee offboarding and device recovery all depend on knowing which serial number belongs to which person at which site. Reconstructing that after the fact, across several hundred devices, is a genuinely miserable project.

Staged multi-site delivery

Chicago companies with offices in the Loop, out in Schaumburg and somewhere in the suburbs typically end up raising three purchase orders through three approval chains. On a corporate programme it is one PO, one invoice, and delivery split by site with dated confirmation for each.

Staged delivery over time works the same way — a hundred-unit order can be released in batches of twenty-five as onboarding classes start, held configured in the meantime, and billed once.

Refresh cycles and trade-in

Most corporate iPad fleets run on a three to four year refresh. Two things are worth planning at purchase rather than at end of life:

Staggering the refresh

Buying an entire fleet in one quarter means replacing an entire fleet in one quarter, four years later, as a single capital hit. Staggering purchases across two or three quarters at the outset spreads that permanently.

Deciding the exit early

Devices at end of life need wiping, unenrolling from Apple Business Manager, and disposing of or reselling. Unenrolment in particular is easy to forget and causes real problems for whoever receives the device next. Build it into the offboarding process now while the fleet is small.

If your ordering is less regular than this, the standard bulk purchase route may fit better. Pricing follows the same volume tiers either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is corporate iPad ordering?

A standing arrangement rather than a one-off purchase. You define the device specification, case, MDM enrolment and asset tag format once; subsequent orders reference that spec sheet and arrive configured to it. It removes the respecification and manual provisioning work from every future batch.

Can iPads arrive already enrolled in our MDM?

Yes. Devices purchased through us can be assigned to your Apple Business Manager organisation before dispatch. With automated device enrolment configured, a device pulls your MDM profile, apps, restrictions and network settings on first boot, supervised, without anyone stepping through Setup Assistant.

Do you work with our existing MDM platform?

Yes. We support the mainstream MDM platforms and do not resell any of them, so there is no commercial reason for us to steer you toward a particular vendor. We will ship a single test unit first so you can validate your enrolment profile before we apply it to a full batch.

Can you apply our asset tags before delivery?

Yes, in your own format and continuing your existing numbering sequence. Every order arrives with a register mapping asset tag to serial number to model to delivery site, which is what you will need for audits, insurance claims and offboarding.

Can we deliver to several Chicago offices on one purchase order?

Yes. Multi-site delivery runs on a single PO and a single invoice, with dated delivery confirmation per location. Deliveries can also be staged over time — a hundred units released in batches as onboarding classes start, held configured in between, billed once.

How often should a corporate iPad fleet be refreshed?

Most run a three to four year cycle. The more useful decision is to stagger purchases across two or three quarters from the start, so the refresh does not arrive as a single capital hit four years later. Plan the exit process — wipe, unenrol from Apple Business Manager, dispose or resell — while the fleet is still small.
